You are adept at developing creative programming that bring the voice of a diverse local community to the world stage and you are familiar with a variety of topics and pressing local issues. You can speak on non-profit management, environmental issues, federalism, and human rights. You are an organized, highly motivated self-starter who works well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You are an efficient communicator (both written and oral) who is interested in maintaining close ties with community partners through a variety of technologies (email, text, phone calls, social media, etc.). You are passionate about the larger world and you think that the mission of Global Ties KC is important for the community at-large.

WHO WE ARE: Global Ties KC is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to improve global understanding and achieve peace through exchange programs between international visitors and citizens in our communities.  Global Ties KC promotes citizen diplomacy by person-to-person contacts to help shape United States foreign relations "one handshake at a time."  We bring over 300 delegates to KC each year, including business, non-profit, and government leaders from over 90 countries.  International Visitor Leadership Program alumni include over 500 current or former Heads of State. 

Position Title:            Program Associate

Type of Position:       Full Time

Responsibilities and position overview:

  • Your main focus will be on the IVLP program: you’ll strategically submit proposals, develop relationships with partner organizations, then plan and monitor all programs. Complete all steps for each IVLP program, including scheduling, program creation, packets, packet drop-off, thank you cards, and submission of all program material into salesforce database. For each IVLP program, you will write a minimum of 2 social media posts.

  • This detail-intensive job will require you to juggle many simultaneous programs. You will facilitate approximately 40 programs a year, creating 3-5 day itineraries for each delegation.

  • No two days will ever be the same. Visitors from over 100 countries come to KC through Global Ties KC programs each year. You will have the opportunity to meet almost all of these groups and to spend time showing them around Kansas City.

  • You will also work with the media team in promotion of these programs and developing an overarching media and marketing strategy.

  • Responsible for maintaining Global Ties KC website and ensuring current data is updated on an ongoing basis.

  • Maintain Salesforce database, grant tracking and program summary files.

  • Will work in a team environment, assisting and taking on programming for large youth programs and fee for service projects.

  • Additional work will include keeping the website updated, social media development, grant writing and annual report documentation, and resource development.

Required skills and attributes

  • EXCELLENT oral and written communication skills

  • Significant international experience and experience working with diverse groups

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with an international focus

  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing work demands, as well as ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.  Ability to work on concurrent projects with minimal supervision required.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; specifically, analytical experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.  Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro preferred.

  • Experience managing social media channels including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

  • Additional consideration for candidates with experience in Salesforce or other database software

  • Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment, reliability, professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.

  • Must pass a background check (as you’ll work with youth on occasion)

  • Occasional overtime/weekend hours required during Youth, Open World and Community Connection programming.


Compensation
Salary range $30,000-35,000 a year, depending on experience, plus vacation and paid holidays
